    '67 big block choke rod

Correct choke coil to carb rod on a '67 390 hp BB,( Holley 3811) comes out of the box almost straight-no front to back bend(one for '66 425 hp similar). Would have to put a big bend in it to have top of rod extend "one rod diameter above attachment hole to carb lever with choke held closed" as per Chevy service manual. Is this correct for my BB or does this just apply to SB? When I bought the car, the rod was staight;I bent it as above; now barely holds choke closed. Could someone with experience with this particular engine tell me the correct setup?
    Thanks in advance

William..When I adjust my SB per. the service manual the choke won't open all the way when hot . I adjust it at the open position with the engine hot and when cold it won't close all the way. I suspect it to be the reproduction choke coil. I haven't been able to find an NOS 3887148 choke coil at a reasonable price. The 3887148 is for all 67's..Bill

        Keith,
Thanks for reply. I know you bend it, but I had to put a BIG bend in the correct rod that starts out straight to adjust per CSM. What kind of bend is in yours? Did you do it the way described in CSM ? A photo would be very helpful.
        Thanks again,
        Bill

Bend like this..... Pretty sure this duplicates factory...... been a long time since doing this. Choke has full travel. Using an original choke coil. 67 L36

You don't need to find one. The Standard Motor Products CV-24 is virtually identical in form and function. The only difference I've seen is that the frame of the original was natural steel and the Standard Motor Products part is zinc plated. You can remove the plating from the very minor exposed areas if you wish but I would not. Most of the coil cannot be seen once installed anyway.

Thanks, Steve. That really helps. I'm a Radiologist;so. believe "a picture is worth a thousand words";or as we say:"a head full of x-ray dye is worth a room full of Harvard neurologists."
