A few weeks ago Jerry Gollnick and I were discussing the SAE paper on the Rochester Fuel Injection system, originally published in 1957. I thought I had a digital copy, but it turns out I only had an old, faded photocopy, so I started a Google search and found out that SAE recently published a 50-year compilation of Corvette-related SAE papers in a single 370 page soft cover book:
The Chevrolet Corvette: New Vehicle Engineering and Technical History (PT-118)
Edited by Daniel J. Holt.
$19.99 (non-SAE member price) plus shipping
Starting with a 1953 paper by Maurice Olley (who is the father of modern suspension design) highlights include the 1957 Fuel Injection paper and the 1963 paper on the design and development of the 1963 Corvette.
The modern era is well represented with several papers on the design and development of the C5 and aerodynamic development of the C6 Z06.
A paper on the LS1 is included. Unfortunately the 1992 paper on the LT1 is not, but it's available separately - 920673
What's amazing to me are the advances in engineering technology that are evident when you compare the design and development of the C2 with the C5.
You don't have to be an engineer to understand these papers, but you will find them more interesting if you have at least an interest in vehicle design and production or you will get an education on the subject.
A few of the papers have a little math, but it's not beyond what a junior high kid taking algebra can understand.
Go to www.sae.org hit the publications button and search for PT-118. If you do a little more searching you may find some other publications of interest. I also added, among others, Paul Van Valkenberg's, "Chevrolet Racing: Fourteen Years of Raucious Silence". It has recently been reprinted after a 30 year hiatus. It was a very interesting read and great addition to my library.
