    70 Coupe blower switch

My non-a/c 70 coupe blower switch (off-low-med-high) functions with the heat/air left scroll wheel set to OFF.
I have the heat/air controller out of the car, how/where does the scroll wheel inhibit the blower switch when in the OFF position. I'm not seeing any contacts or connection to stop the blower switch from functioning.

    TIA,
    Mike

Mike, that is normal, my non-AC 70 functions the same way and passed PV. I think the scroll wheel only controls the little vacuum-operated doors that direct the air flow.

As Pat stated this is normal operation. The 1969 Owners Manual under Blower Control says the blower should not be operated unless the air door is open. The 1970 Owners Manual may have the same caution.

I don't have the 70 Judging Manual in front of me, but I thought it says the blower should not function when the left hand control wheel is in the OFF position.

Mike I came across this while getting ready for PV, and I do think the manual is a bit confusing on this issue. As I recall it says the fan blower should not "operate" with the left hand thumbwheel in the off position. It also says when this thumbwheel control is in the off position, the system is "totally inoperative."

I think what the manual means is that the blower and system won't "operate", in that, with the air door closed, air will not come out. But the blower will still try to work, in that, it will still try to blow even if the air door is closed.

Mike I checked the 1968-1972 Operations Manual and it says the blower should not operate with the left hand thumb wheel in the OFF position. I believe this is correct only for A/C equiped cars which have a 4 speed blower.

Larry is right that the AC cars function differently. But the manual still says (or said) a non-AC car's system should be "totally inoperative" with the thumbwheel in the off position, which as we know is arguably not the case. See my previous thread on this same issue:

I recall that back in that era there was a lot of Engineering paranoia about CO intrusion into the passenger compartment, as a result of many lawsuits (leaky exhaust systems, floor plugs missing, body seams not properly sealed, etc.). At some point the word went out to all the Car Divisions to implement what they called "full-time low blower" so the passenger compartment would be pressurized at all times, whether the heat/AC was in use or not. This was not well communicated to the dealers, and there was a flood of warranty claims about "my heater won't shut off".

The fan will shutoff. It just also runs (when positioned in low-med-high) when the left thumb wheel is in the OFF position, which doesn't match the Judging Guide.

                    Lesson learned.
