    EBay Big Block Oil Pan

Here's one I happened to come across. This Corvette big block oil pan just sold for $355 and garnered 20 bids! This pan is described as having been removed from a crate engine when new and "carefully stored". However, from what I can see of it, it appears to have a big dent on the bottom of the sump. In any event, this pan is still available under GM #14091356 for a GM list price of 130 bucks. And for 130 bucks you get the windage tray as well as the pan. Yet, someone was willing to pay $355 for this!!!!!!

At least I'm glad the seller is from Santa Cruz, CA. That's one of my favorite places on earth so I'm happy this sale did their local economy some good.

A big block pan will not fit a small block and is configured differently. How does one know the difference? How do you know the difference between a Chevy and a Ford?

All big block oil pans, Corvette and otherwise, used a pan with a spot welded flange on the side for dip stick tube installation. The only small block pan that used this style dip stick tube flange was the 1st design 1956 Corvette pan. All others used a block-mounted dipstick tube.

Joe -- the lucky buyer still has to obtain & install the corner gussets [when did they end ?], and drill a hole in the middle of the timing cover gasket lip (for '65 to early '67[?]).

I think the corner reinforcements ended after 1968 or 1969. However, it's possible they continued for a few years after that.
