Looking at p. 42 of the 66 Tech Manual [l-39], there is a photo showing how original carpets were cut to accommodate the seat frame runners. The question is, why the extra cut out on the center inside portion of the runners? I noticed in previous posts, 67's did not have this additional cut out. Thanks for your help.

Re: C2 (66) carpet question
To take this question even further-Why the cut out at all other than the flap over the front bolt and maybe a short cutout at the rear hold down loop as the rail in between the two mounting points is far above the carpet(lots of clearance between the rail and the floor)?- Top

Re: C2 (66) carpet question
Russ, my understanding is that if you don't cut out the area under the runners, in a 66, it could potentially damage the runners. How is that you say? Again, I have no personal experience in this area, other than having restored my seats and spent quite a bit of time with the seat frames, including the runners, I've heard it explained, if the runners are not supported by a solid surface, in this case the floor and not the insulation and carpet, it could distort the runners. Now, I've seen seat bottom frames, where the runners are inserted, distorted. That obviously could cause some major problems. Was that as a result of failing to properly cut out the carpet. I don't know. In my opinion, it would take a lot to distort/bend the runners. I'm not taking any chances so I'm going to make the cuts. However, why cut out the area I noted earlier. Only thing I can think of is that the mechanism underneath the seat, that allows for seat adjustment, may catch on the carpet.- Top
