56 Rubber Seal Under Window Channel

Is the rubber seal at tha base of the side window glued into the channel or attached to the window glass or is it just held in place by the top stainless window frame that is screwed into the window frame at the bottom on both ends? Thanks for your help.

When I took mine apart it did not appear to have any glue - just the frame screws and a very tight fit. Rumor on past threads are repro bottom channels are a bear to install. Rubber may be too thick. I have not put mine back together yet, so I have that to look forward to yet.

      Dan,

Thanks for your response. I didn't think so, but wanted to check out if anyone else had any experience. Going to put the ss frame around the windows tonight, so we'll see how that goes. Mark

        Hi Mark,

I think the frame will go on okay, but not so sure about the bottom channel. Let us know how you make out. Mine is power windows, which is going to be an even greater challenge. -Dan-

          Dan,

It went well. I did go with the thinner tape between the upper frame and the window glass as was used originally and it went in fine with a little dish soap and water. Got the tape from my local glass company. I used the same dish soap method on the inside of the glass channel on the lower channel to make sure it was lubricated and didn't bind. I applied it with a little foam painting brush. I will admit that even though I used the thinner tape on the upper s.s. frame, it still took some gorilla effort to get the screw holes lined up on the outer window frame so I coud re-attach them. If I had only had one more set of hands...!

Good luck with yours. Should go well.
