    67 ignition nut

I'm having trouble removing the ignition nut from the ignition switch. It loosens up, but won't come all the way off. I'm thinking it may be stripped, but want to make sure there's not a "trick" to take it off. Please let me know.

    Joe,

You do have the ignition lock out already I assume?

The tumbler is not out. I tried to remove the tumbler by using a paper clip, but I could not get the assembly out. I don't know if I'm doing something wrong.

        Joe,
The nut will not come off without removing the tumbler first. Do you have the key? Put key in and turn towards accessory and push your pin in while lightly twisting it and it will pop out. Without the key, well you need a locksmith that knows the old B&S locks.

Or if you can remove door panel and remove a door lock (assuming all are original) and read the code number stamped on the lock you can have a key made for the ignition with that as it was same originally

I tried to remove the tumbler as you described, but it didn't come loose. Is the procedure to first turn the key to accessory, then press a paper clip into the hole and then turn the key counterclockwise?

Yes, correct. Be certain the pin is small enough as you are passing thru the tumbler. You should be able to feel the locking pin push in as its spring loaded

              Joe,

If you look with a strong flashlight as you turn the key, you should be able to see the pin as it lines up with the hole in the lock. Once you see it, insert the small paper clip and press the pin in. Once you do that continue to turn the key and the cylinder should turn and then come out.

              Good luck.

I finally was able to get the tumbler out. I initially was using a small pick, but when I switched to a paper clip to depress the release, it came right out. Thanks for the help.
