    antifreeze

I am looking for some suggestions for antifreeze mix ratio. I live in SW Flordia and it never gets below 40 degrees. any ideas

Antifreeze also increases the boiling point of the coolant. Use a quality product and mix per the directions on the container

50/50 is usually the safe bet!

A 50/50 mix provides the best OVERALL protection from freezing, boil-over, and corrosion. Plain water provides the best cooling but is lacking in freeze protection, boil-over protection and corrosion protection and should NEVER be used in a modern cooling system. The highest concentration of anti-freeze that can be used is 70% but I don't recommend it. More than 70% will cause severe cooling problems. What do I use? I use 55% antifreeze, 45% water.

And, DO NOT use tap water. Get some distilled water at the grocery store.

I second Ken's suggestion about using distilled water from the grocery store. Costs about one dollar/gallon and the distilled water has all the hard minerals removed so it's much easier on your cooling system, mix the coolant/water at 50%..

Call Valvoline and get some of their racing coolant and mix with distilled water. Has all the corrosion protection you need, antifoaming agents-protects and transfers heat better than anti freeze -used in Navy Seal attack boats. Does not give freezing protection components of an antifreeze, though.

Valvoline Super Coolant is designed for racing applications only. I do not recommend it for street use. I do not think it provides boil-over protection.

I'm not even sure if it's still available.

                      Joe,
Zerex Racing Super Coolant does provide boilover protection according to Dr. David Turcotte,Valvoline engineer 1-(800)TEAMVAL , whom I talked to before using product. I live where summer gets to high 90's and 100.Product works well.Compatible with all metals and with G-O5 antifreeze, if needed, but most effective for heat transfer with as little antifreeze as possible or with just distilled water if no freeze protection needed. Much better than "wetter water, etc. which Dr. Turcotte says causes foaming and hot spots.
