    Steel wheel markings

Can someone tell me about the markings on this wheel and if it will judge OK as a spare for my 65?

    Thanks for your help.

Bill -- yours looks OK for me. Here's one of mine with a '65' and a '3' for the month. Of course, the inside of the air chamber cannot judged, but your stampings probably indicate that the external features will be OK. Like a 'GM' stamp on one of the spiders (between the bolt holes) and the two 'nubs' by the valve stem, and absence of any stampings either side of the valve stem hole.

      William,

It appears that your wheel is stamped with a "5" and a "66" (May 1966) and is an original 1966 Corvette wheel. The 1965 and 1966 Corvette wheels made from the Fall of 1964 to 1966 are the same (GM # 3869156). However, I one once owned an "early" 1965 Corvette wheel dated "12" and "64" (Dec. 1964) that was riveted instead of welded.

GM # 3869156 service wheels made in 1979 & 1980 (and probably earlier) have stampings near the valve hole.
