Spare tire for judging

To a point in the restoration of a 65 L79 vert that I am thinking about the spare tire and the fact that current day tires do not fit the tub. My current plan is to drive the car to Top Flight judging with my wife following in the SUV carryring a spare tire that can be displayed at the rear of the car (assuming the judges do not judge the tire to see how well it fits the tub).

I have a correct steel wheel, I think!!!



What tire should I buy for the spare? Present tires on all four corners are Goodyear Decathlon P205/75 R15 3/4" whitewalls (I am assuming 36 point deduction for these). How do I minimize the points deduction for the spare.

Pay big money for an old correct tire or buy a current new reproduction that is most correct.

Purchase an original 7.75 15 "from the era" and use it. A "too big" reproduction is still a repro, even worse if the judge knows it won't fit the tub! There are posts in the archives about what fit's best, and techniques for maximizing the ability to get the tire into the tub. Do a search...
