Part number and Dating a starter for an early '61

We have an October 20, 1960 build date [#1884] for a 61 roadster. The judging manual would require a #889 part number for a '61 starter. We are being told that despite what the NCRS judging manual says, early 61s would still have a 1960 part number for the starter [#889].

The judging manual is getting a little old, so I wonder if there is new, better knowledge about early '61 starters possibly still using left over '60 starter motors. After all, they didn't throw them away.

7664 was used in 60 wasn't it? (you list 889 in both places). Both the 664 and 889 were also used on passenger cars so weren't just used on the Corvette. Who is it telling you different than the manual? My 61 is under #200 and has an 889.

Here is mine late build 1960 (July) pretty sure, much to my amazement, this is original.
