Most Poplular Leather color in 1966/67

I know the statistics do not exist, but does anyone have any input on what interior color Leather was the most popular down to the least least popular back in 1966. I have read that in 1966 there were only 2002 units built with genuine leather seats. Colors offered were Black Code 402, Red Code 408, Bright Blue Code 415, Dark Blue Code 419, Saddle Code 421, and Silver Code 427... I would assume Black was the most popular with red coming in 2nd. I have not seen many bright blue, dark blue or silver leather interiors. Am I right or wrong???

Would a 1966 with red leather interior be one of approx. 333 cars??? (2002 units divided by 6 colors offered) = 333....


Were the statistics similar in 1967??

Dan, Very interesting data. I appreciate the info. If there is any solid reasoning behind the data it may be safe to assume that black leather was not the most popular color choice. If Black Leather and Saddle Leather only consist of 5.1% of the total 2002 cars built with genuine leather seats that leaves 94.9% for the other four color choices. My guess would be that Red Leather would be the most popular of the remaining choices... So a conservative guess would be to divide the remaining choices equally which would give a rough estimate of 474 red leather cars, 474 bright blue leather cars, 474 Dark blue leather cars, and 474 Silver leather cars.

Dan, Scratch my last post. I now realize I was completely incorrect in my assessment. The data you provided was based on a sample of total production for the year! Not on just the total production of cars with Leather. As I re-think this I think Black Leather may have been the most popular. Sorry for the confusion!!

Ya think? This is entirely subjective and impossible to determine without hard data. More people ordered thier own cars in the 60's, so there is a very diverse population of choices. Considerably more than if only dealers were ordering them. The only way to even come close is to find a representative sample and apply the percentages accordingly. I agree with you that dividing it evenly is incorrect.
