Metal Baffle tab on Holley carb

Can some verify for me that the small tab on the metal baffle just in front of the word "TOP" should be placed facing the front of the car? This is a holley 4160 on a '66 327/300.

    Thanks

Maybe others will know what you are referring to but I have no idea.

      Edward,

From my memory the tab goes forward. I think (not sure) if you turn the tab to the rear the venturi holes will not line up.

the metal plate has the same cut out as the top of the intake.

Thanks for the help and yes, it does point forward. As I posted this question, there was a link to past questions relating to the baffle. It never ceases to amaze me the knowledge that is displayed on this site. I learned that many members plug to two 3/8" holes in the manifold with engine freeze type plugs to avoid heat issues in the carb and prolong it life. When this is done, the baffle is no longer needed to disperse heat. Since the carb was original and worked for 40+ years as configured, I did not think it was necessary to do so. Also, I was not sure where the heat went after the holes were plugged. But, it is good to know and even better to learn something new every time I try something else with the car. I think that is what this is all about. Not just driving the car but learning about it as I go. Thanks to all.

            Ed -

There are two "heat circuits" in the '66-'67 iron intake manifolds. The main one (the crossover passage) runs from head to head, below the floor of the intake plenum; the secondary one that heats the "hot-slot" is simply two cast holes from the ends of the "hot-slot" down to the main crossover passage. When you plug the holes at the ends of the "hot-slot", it has no effect on the main crossover passage - it just stops the hot exhaust gases from entering the "hot-slot".

              Edward,

This is how I did my 67 manifold.

Just don't cut threads with hte manifold on the car as you could get steel chips down into the manifold and then of course into the cylinders. My manifold was on the car so I used small soft plugs which fit very snug.
