Have had the '62 for many years. Our NW Region Secretary gave me encouragement to write about the car and how it came into my life and that the car was used for my first date with my wife for (now 39) years, for our "Front Bumper" news letter.

If you have interest in the article, go to nwncrs.org, go to news letters, click on September News Letter for 2011, let it load (PDF), find the article: It Was 1970, First Date Car. Maybe this link will work: http://nwncrs.org/newsletters/2011/S...umper-2011.pdf

        Dan,

That is a great story. You will give Bill a run for his money if he's not careful! Any more stories?

Here is a pic of a young Ralph Spears preparing to make the hard decision about the direction he wanted his life to take...professional clothes horse or Olympic frisbee thrower.

I bought my first Corvette in 1963. It was a 1960 Honduras / Black that was originally a 290 hp FI. It already had an engine change to a 327 / 340 HP from who knows where. The only number I cared about was the new 327. The other distinctive thing was a cockpit cover that required snaps be put into the dash pad. Originally it was a soft top only but ended up with a 1957 hardtop (another story). I cannot find the serial number anywhere. I traded it in Lexington Park, MD in 1967 (one of my dumb car moves) when I was in the Navy and had to have a "muscle Car". Now 6 Corvettes later I think I have the "keeper" which is my 1962 FI.
My wife (now for 46 years) enjoyed many adventures in that car.

I have to assume Ralph is/was color blind. I know it was 69 but WOW!

I guess my purple bellbottoms were in the laundry basket that day. I still have those clothes stored away.

You really ought to burn those, Ralph.

Hey, he could perform in a re-creation of the musical HAIR. I can't believe that thought crossed my mind. EEEKKK!! I need to purge myself.

Or------he could perform the "other" well known play of the day and save the embarassment of the clothes.

Please purge and never mention that play again. It brings back the horror of coming out of the Schubert in Chicago in August 1970 to find my '59 gone. I did get it back, but I can still re-live the whole painful episode ... and just did.
