    BB Tonawanda valve cover decal

while removing the original paint on dads L36 valve cover I noticed there was no paint under the decal but no evidence of paint on the decal. how did they mask off the sticker or why wouldn't they do that after paint?

The original Tonawanda sticker has a shield attached. They stuck the sticker to the bare steel and after paint pulled off the shield.

The only place I have seen the correct one (besides on a car) was at Tonawanda. I know someone here has one -- they have posted a photo, but I can't remember who. I guess I should have grabbed one when I had the chance, but I am not into large motors -- at least not the ones made at Tonawanda.

          Tape it off.

Oh, and I think there is a minor size difference between the available reproductions and the originals.

well thanks everyone. that solves that question. so If I apply the decal over the painted cover will the result in a deduct. or should I apply one on the bare steel and tape it off and then paint.

I knew someone -- besides that show off Mark -- had one. I guess it is just as well I left them behind at Tonawanda.

APPLY & then paint & go heavy around the sticker.

I would mask it, using 3M Fine Line tape.

If I remember correctly a certain MD in PA has a very good reproduction
