    1968 Parking Brake Slider

Do I have to cut to install? How do I get it around the parking brake handle?

Sorry, the search function worked great. Cut the slider, passenger side 3/8" up. This is the best forum.

The same thing was necessary on the 70-72's. Earlier versions of sliders that were sold over the counter like some thirty plus years ago I believe you did not have to cut.

        Hi Cathy,
When you put the slider on notice that the shape of the opening for the e-brake handle has a front and back that matches the shape of the handle.
        Regards,

            Were the originals cut?

Yes, they were. SERVICE pieces available for many years were also cut. I don't know when the cut was deleted for SERVICE. There were actually THREE different part numbers. 1967-only was GM #3901995. 1968-73 used GM #3918665. 1974-82 used GM #333605. The 3901995 was shorter than the later parts and had the slit on the opposite side compared to later. I don't know what the difference was between the 3918665 and the 333605. However, the 333605 eventually replaced both of the previous part numbers and had to be shortened for use on 1967's. The 333605 has been discontinued.

The lack of the slit on the SERVICE piece should actually be beneficial. That would allow one to cut the slit on whichever side is appropriate for the model year involved. Properly slit and shortened, the SERVICE piece should be indistinguishable from the original when installed on a 1967.
