    67 Steering column plastic jacket

Should the plastic jacket extend down onto the solid part of the column housing (past the criss-cross mesh of the column housing) to help prevent water from getting into the lower column bearing OR should it be more up onto the column under the dash for cosmetic appearances? Anyone have a correct starting point (distance) for this from either end of the column? As always thanks!!

The plastic cover should go right down to the welded toe plate on the column jacket. You can't get it to stick out into the engine compartment.

Thanks Jim, also just found your posts on rebuilding the column from 2/12/11. I will print for reference this weekend during the rebuilding process

I assume that you have a standard (non-adjustable) steering column. I also assume that you have the two papers that can be found at this website address: http://jimshea.corvettefaq.com/?p=955
If you find any errors, corrections, or points that need clarification, I would appreciate feedback.
