Re: 1962 corvette rear axle dates???
It appears that all gear ratios except 4.56 and 4.11 could be ordered as positraction or an open rear end.
I am not sure if the engine option had any influence on the type or gearing.
Mike, could you elaborate on this?- Top

Re: 1962 corvette rear axle dates???
Hello Matt:
I looked up the following in the GM Chassis and Body Parts Catalog. (1976)
57-62 4.11 ratio Part Number 3748434 (37-9T) (3733908-3733912) (Note 1) When used W/P/Trac. requires P/Trac. differential unit 3853552
57-62 3.70 ratio Part Number 3748438 (37-10T) (3737957-3733910) ( Note 2) When used W/P/Trac. requires P/Trac.differential unit 3853550
57-62 4.56 ratio Part Number 3748447 (41-9T) (3720089-90) (Note 1) When used W/P/Trac. requires P/Trac. differential unit 3853552
Note Axle Ratio is equal to ring gear divide by pinion, ie 37 divided by 10 is equal to 3.70 to 1.
The part numbers in parentheses are stamped on ring gear and pinion respectively.
I hope the information can help you out.- Top

Re: 1962 corvette rear axle dates???
This has been said before but here goes again, back in those days if your dealership had any clout at all you could order whatever you wanted, within reason.
My dad ran a Chevy store in the late 50's and 60's and I saw a lot of stuff come thru that was not in the order book.
