I washed my '66 Vette this weekend and to my surprise water was coming in on the outer driver and passenger side under the dash. Any ideas why this is happening and how to stop it from happening again?

Re: Water entering cabin during wash
Jeremy, I would think there maybe a windsheild sealing problem, or problem with lower bird cage area. Its going to take a little troubleshooting, spary some water on the windsheild while keeping an eye on the underside of dash, Using a flash light sometimes help. Hopefully you don't have a Air Cond. car.New England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight.- Top

Re: Water entering cabin during wash
Jeremy, yes it just adds to ability to see under dash. As most have posted these cars were not sealed all that well from the factory. convertibles were the worst. coupes don't have as many issues.there is a problem with water entering the car(rusting the bird cage). And if you wash the car I would advise to not use a hose around the windsheild area, use a clean damp cloth.I generally don't wash my corvettes with a hose and bucket.I use a Duster and Adams deatailer and a clean micro fiber.and try not to drive in the rain. but have stuck in a few down pours.New England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight.- Top

Re: Water entering cabin during wash
I believe there were holes in the firewall near where the fenders attach to it. The holes were used as lift points for the body drop. The holes where plugs with a sealant after the drop. The sealant dries out over time and leaks occur. Seeing the holes are almost impossible making it difficult to reseal.- Top

Re: Water entering cabin during wash
Jeremy,
Clean out the drain holes for the WW vents and your problem will go away.
Jack up the car and look up at the #2 mounting at the firewall. About one inch to the rear of it is a hole that drains the water that comes in the vents just in front of the windshield. You know, those big ones that the wiper arms attach!
That water has to go somewhere so when the drain holes are stopped up with poop the water comes in the vents inside the car.

Not on a midyear - the Body Drop tackle carried the body from the top of the wheel openings; no holes in the body were involved.
