Does any body have pics of a C2 door without the panel in place that would show the original dum dum caulking? I am wondering just where on the door it was applied. Thanks

Here is a pic of my door with the panel off. You can see where the dum dum was used if you look closely. Hope this helps.Attached FilesRob

Re: 66 C2 vapor barrier visable behind door panel-OK? Pics please
Russ,
I may be able to help, but will need some expert opinion. The car I'm working on was built Jan. 11, 1967. It was repainted most recently in the early 1980s, before that it was painted "Buick Shadow Gray" (I think that's what it was called, looked sort of like glossy bare black fiberglass color) by the previous owner around 1973.
Picture 1:
I'm guessing the translucent white plastic vapor barriers are original, and the painter circa 1980 didn't remove them (green overspray). If I understand correctly, the barriers were installed well after body paint, so there shouldn't be any body color overspray. You can sort of see through the plastic to the white strip-caulk underneath.
Picture 2:
Vapor barrier removed, most of the white strip-caulk remained stuck to the vapor barrier, but the outline on the door is still fairly visible.
I compared this picture to the drawing on UPC 1Doors-K16 (1966 & 1967 AIMs) and it seems pretty consistent with the AIM. I don't see evidence of any earlier caulking, but I can't be sure whether the caulk outline shown in the picture is original. The lower half of the door that was covered by the vapor barrier looks original to me, but someone with more experience should be able to say with more certainty.

The translucent vapor barriers make it much easier to see the white strip-caulk underneath
The 67JG says: "Between the inner door and the trim panel is a moisture barrier of either brown paper or opaque white vinyl secured to the door by white strip caulk."
It looks like the change from brown paper to translucent white plastic happened at some point during the 1967 model year. The Vapor Barrier p/n in the 1966 AIM is GM 3863701. The Vapor Barrier in the 1967 AIM is GM 3920161, but with TWO references to the Revision Record at the bottom of the page, saying that the Vapor Barrier WAS GM 3901857-8 Paper (dated 9-28-66) and WAS GM 3914527 Paper (dated 2-8-67).
Seems like they were experimenting, trying to solve a problem.- Top

I am in the process of rehabing my vent windows and door channels. I quickly took a couple of pictures to add to your analysis. This is from a '64 roadster with a March build date. I believe that you can determine the sealer lines. The second picture is the paper moisture barrier. This is the side toward the door, black, the fron side is brown paper. I know that mine have been take off before, but with the original vapor barrier, I believe the laout of the sealer is original. Good luck on your car.

Thanks guys for all the help. These are very good pics. Also the AIM as mentioned is very helpful. I hate to admit it, but I had actually looked at that page but obliviously way to quickly as I missed the dum dum illustration. I guess because I was looking for the note that told which way(black on back side) the paper went on. Thanks for all the help- Top
