Can a person still buy regular oil shocks for the corvette or has everyone went to gas charged.

Re: Non gas shocks for 63-82
I put a couple of thousand miles on my 1970 with KYB gas shocks. I can't evaluate them by themselves because at the time I also got some low profile "Gatorbacks" for the car. I would be separating pepper from fly **** if I tried to tell you what changed due to the shocks and what changed due to the tires, and their drastically reduced overall diameter and much larger contact patch.Terry- Top

Re: Non gas shocks for 63-82
Jim, Why put in just plain oil shocks, when todays shock technology is light years ahead of the 70's. For judging reasons theres really nothing correct that even resembles the originals, other than the real deal and the ones you find used are more than likely have had there useful life and are way over priced. Todays Delco shocks are not even made in the USA. The best opition for shocks for improved ride and handling for corvettes C2/C3 gen.s are Blistens. KYB'S are another.New England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight.- Top

Rochester is on my list for this year. The good Lord willing and the creek don't rise. I remember the excitement we all had over the spare tire on that 1969. Grown men acting foolishly.Last edited by Terry M.; March 2, 2012, 10:08 PM.Terry- Top

Re: Non gas shocks for 63-82
Jim This is not true, The coil springs and leaf spring control ride hieght. shocks do not support car. There are what give you the ride control and absorb the bumps. todays shock technologly improve the control ,and ride leaps and bounds over old original style shocks. the Delco shocks Russ menchins are Okay. If you really are not going to have your car judged bilstein is the way to go.New England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight.- Top

Re: Non gas shocks for 63-82
I don't claim to know nearly as much as most around here, but when I put Delco gas shocks on my 69 a few years ago it definitely increased the rear ride height. I had to get the longer spring bolts to bring it back down.- Top

Re: Non gas shocks for 63-82
Dan thanks for the reply to this thread, I would think that a high pressure gas charged shock would act similar to the old air shocks in the day, add some air and it would raise the car up, as it obviously did on you 69 with the Delco gas shocks.JR- Top
