    70 4 spd. TCS issues

This is a continuation of sorts from a previous post.

I had a clicking sound coming through the radio during the 3rd and 4th gear shift. I disconnected the TCS at the transmission. The clicking stopped.

However, with the TCS disconnected, the idle speed increases to about 1,100 RPM once fully warmed up and will not kick down. I plug the TCS back in and the idle is right where it should be at 750 RPM.

I do not have nor have I ever had the temp sensor plugged in to the engine harness as I do not have the correct harness.

Would I be correct in thinking that both the clicking and the high warm idle speed indicate a bad solenoid?

The fast cold start idle works perfectly and the carb kicks down exactly as it should. In fact, if I let the car sit it will idle fine once warmed up. As soon as I drive it and make the first shift to third gear the idle goes up and stays up unless it sits long enough to be completely cold and I go through the cold start process again.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks, Bill

My TCS system works as designed (thanks Dave Strickland!) I also get the "clicking" sound in third and forth. FWIW.

I don't remember that back when I was driving my 1970, but then I didn't use the radio very much. I wonder if there is a capicator in that circuit to prevent that. I can not picture one, but it seems there is one every place else.

        HI Terry,

If I had a 70 LT -1 I doubt I would listen to the radio much either

I did not see a capacitor listed in the AIM.

I am wondering if maybe when the solenoid starts to go bad, the result is a loss of the ground path.
