Heater core Leaking 82 Collector car

Heater core is leaking both on the carpet and under the car. I've ordered a new one. Any directions from any one would be appreciated, like whether it comes out from under the car or from under the dash, etc.

I have done the heater core change on my 70 with factory air conditioning. The heater core comes out from inside. Do you have a service manual for your 1982?

I did my 78 a few years ago and your 78 would be nearly the same as the 78. Start by pulling the passenger seat. You'll have to get the duct work out of the way and probably even have to loosen the instrument console and driver's console to remove ductwork. Once you get to the heater core box cover, get some towels or something to protect your carpet (sounds like it may be too late for that) as you remove the cover in the event, coolant has leaked into the core box. You'll also have to disconnect the climate controls from the core box if I remember correctly.

I went to the extent while I had everything out, to check functionality of the actuators that operated the doors for the fresh air, defroster, heat and air. Vaccum pump works nicely for this since climate control system works off vaccum.

Drop me a note if you run into any problems.

Take out the carpet and clean it with plenty of water and then let it dry in the sun. You may have the metal floor C3, but coolant soaked fiberglass will soften and deteriorate over time. Of course the coolant sill mess up your metal floor too.

Get a Factory Service Manual for your 1982, and then follow it step by step to change the heater core. Keep track of which holes the screws came out of and put them back in the same hole.
