Can anyone recommend a reputable engine builder in Northern NJ? Just a stock rebuild 327/300....nuthin fancy.

Pat was nice enough to allow a group of us Central New Jersey members, take a personal guided tour through his facility. Quite a set up! (They do more then just race engines)

In my opinion one of the best engine builders anywhere is Tony File out of New Jersey. Many years ago my Dad and I restored the Peter Fonda 1965 396 coupe, now owned by Paul Sedacca and Tony did the engine. We did the engine and chassis restoration. Supposedly this was the first M22 car and first production Corvette with side exhaust. I was told the other day that he is semi retired, but occasionally does take on a job. If you need his contact info, I may be able to get it for you.

Contact Pat Musi. He has all needed equipment in his shop and he understands the importance of NCRS requirements regarding the engine stamp pad.

The main reason I took my last engine to him was that they will dyno the motor after it's assembled. This assures a good cam break-in and eliminates having to chase various fluid leaks.

I called Pat...$2500 flat fee & a little more for hardened seats....that's the ticket. I was rebuilding my front end, found the pan leaking a bit (no issues with this motor) and look what I saw. The cam bearing is squshing out the side!photo.jpg

Don't go for the hardened seats unless you plan to pull a trailer up the Smoky mountains with your Corvette!

New pistons, boring, tourqe plate hone, decking if needed (preserving pad), align boring, cut crank, resize rods, new cam & gears, 5 angle valve job. He said it was a flat charge for this type of job. Seems reasonable, no?

He suggested the hardened seats if I wasn't adding any fuel additives.

I would also ask what manufacturers are being used for the various components. Are they going to mag particle the block and heads. I would think the block should be squared if necessary. What about lifters, push rods, valve spring, balancing the rotating assembly, timing chain (I suggest roller)? We can talk more tomorrow at dinner. I'll bring a copy of what was done when I had my engine rebuilt.

Dropped my engine off at Musi's yesterday...He's very nice (as they all were), it's family run and a really impressive shop. Some killer stuff in there.
