Bolt and nut finish/tie-rod support to spindle

I believe the two bolts are 1/2".

They connect the tie-rod support to the spindles and are held fast by stover nuts. My bolts certainly look to be black-oxide (dull black), and judging from head marks are original. I have looked through my books and can not find them listed as to finish.

The nuts may have been cad plated??

Could someone help me establish the original finish for both??

    Dan -

That's the steering arm-to-spindle attachment; what you found is typical - phosphated bolts, zinc-plated Stover nuts.

Thanks John. I found my error in reading the "Chassis Restoration Guide". The terminology got me. Just as you say the bolts are black.

        Dan,
The important thing is they are grade 8 bolts. The 1/2'" hardware prior to 68 was 7/16". Most all higher graded bolts are a phosphate or black oxide finish. Rare is a zinc plate on a high graded bolt used by GM back then.
