The most exciting part of the whole race was the fire involving the track dryer. The fire crew looked like a bunch of monkey's trying to f--- a football.

I was routing for Jr. as well. I am surprised that the truck did not have a fuel cell.

Absolutely. As one of their recent champs said on the radio: "Nascar has turned into professional wrestling." (of course Nascar hauled him in and told him to shut up and keep makin' his millions).

          Nascar is such a joke.

I agree that the fire was exciting, but unless you have expierence fighting fuel fires calling the firefighters monkey's is a little short sighted . 200 gallons of jet fuel plus the truck fuel on a 30 degree incline would be a challenge to any fire crew .

Bill, I retired with over 31 years on the FD. Taught flammable liquids classes at the state academy and was in charge of fires that involved over 30,000 gals. of gasoline. A 200 gallon kerosene fire is not really that difficult. I saw so many safety violations they will be lucky if they don't get fined by Labor & Industries.

Hi Jim, with 31 years as a firefighter I am surprised that you would call fellow firefighters monkeys . I too am a firefighter ( 37 yrs and still going ) . I have not been to too many emergency situations where everything goes by the book . How many years were you firefighting and how many years training ?

31 years in the field, mostly as an engine officer. The instructing was a side job. You're right about things not always going as planned but 2 incidents you have to stick to a well organized plan is hazmat and flam. liquid calls or people (firefighters) get hurt.
I wasn't really calling anyone a monkey, it's a phrase we always use to describe chaos.

Agree. I grew up watching stock car racing on the Wide World of Sports whenever they showed it and I used to attend both Dover and both Pocono races from the late 80's through 2000. My interest started waning during that period as the crowds got bigger, the prices kept going up, the traffic became unbearable and the racing became more politically correct. After Dale Sr died, I lost my remaining interest. I watched parts of races here and there, but I just couldn't get revved up over it anymore. I began to gravitate more towards road racing which I find very interesting. I almost made it down to the Rolex 24 this year, but ended up having a scheduling conflict at the last minute and had to bail.

I did watch the last race last year and that was a good one. I was looking forward to Daytona this year thinking maybe it would be different, it was, but not from a racing standpoint.

I'll tune in off and on through out the season as there are a few drivers I like to follow but in the end I'm no longer a die hard fan. I have a hard time swallowing the "Great AMERICAN Race" being paced by a Toyota................

...but that Toyota pace car was assembled in the USA and probably has as much "North American sourced parts content" as the average car produced by GM, Ford, or Chrysler.

I, too, love road racing, but NASCAR does put on a pretty good show IMO. I gave up on the F1 parade several years ago, but my interest has been someone rekindled now that they have the Drag Reduction System (along with the hokey energy storage system) that actually allows PASSING on the track instead of just the result of pit stops.

I understand and I appreciate that a lot of hard working Americans put that pace car together. I'm just stuck in the thought that NASCAR should be "Detroit Iron". It's my perception and I'm working hard to accept it. I had the same reaction when my favorite tool company, Snap On, changed over to a Toyota for their Top Fuel funny car.

NASCAR has become similar to a bureaucratic system, in that they fixed it until they ruined it. The few big money teams always prevail. The rest are just running laps.
