I removed my steering column to cleanup the gauge cluster and when I put it back in it seems the rag joint insertion distance is different its about 5/8 and was about 1 inch in, what could have changed or is this alright to leave as is?

Re: 67 Steering column
Joe,I believe your steering column is a claspable type,The shaft may have slipped up. it may require a few taps to get the rag joint to where it was.New England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight.- Top

Re: 67 Steering column
The inner shaft is a two piece unit designed to collapse on impact. There is a nylon "pin" thru the shafts that will shear under impact. That pin is probably already sheared/broken allowing the 2 shafts to slide inside each other, thus, the shaft appears to be shorter. You have the correct idea of tapping on the lower clamp to extend the lower shaft to its original position.- Top
