Right you are Scott -- and I should have known that since I have Cheap Thrills within arms length. I lost a good part of my hearing at BB&tHC concerts.

      Terry,

By the time I was old enough to go concerts, Pink Floyd (minus Waters) and the Grateful Dead were about the only older groups still touring that I was fortunate enough to see, so I can only imagine hearing most of my favorites live.

There weren't any 1980s groups that were in the same league as most of the 60s and 70s groups, so most of my friends and I stuck with what was (even then) called "classic rock". Jimi, Janis, Creedence, Doors, Who, Zep, Dylan, Beatles, Stones, Clapton, CSN&Y, that's the kind of music we listened to.

      Still do!

Some day, not here in public, I will tell you the details about the Doors "lewd & lascivious" concert here in Chicago. I and my eldest sister were there. Miami got the big press, but he was accused of lewd & lascivious acts here in Chicago first. Enough of this. Too many feel good memories.

Stopped off at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame some years back. Hendrix was playing in the theater. First time I ever heard him do "Amazing Grace" And they had a display of James Morrison memorabilia. His father was an Air Force officer. A one star General if I remember right. There were hints his father lost out on promotion because of his son's antics.

SAM RAMSEY from Cleveland, TN used to own JH's 1957 Corvette. I saw the car when Kevin MacKay and Jack Murray and I visited his "car farm" in November 1999. It was a neat custom candy apple paint car that Sam bought in 1967 from Jimmy. So yes, the man was a Corvette guy.

Of course, but Janis' definitive version is the one most people recognize, even those who don't know who Janis was

Did they allow drinking at those concerts?

That sounds like a great conversation for the next time you drag me to the Blue Max.

Alcohol was not the drug of choice in that venue, but I suspect a lot of the audience was loaded one way or another.

The exebit also showed what an artist Jimi was. Cars and planes were subjects. His Dad was military as well as was Morrison's. Morrison was an Eagle Scout and about straight as they come. The letters to and from his Mom very loving. Morrison's Father was an Admiral in the Navy if I remember correctly.

The Alan Parsons Project, The Moody Blues, The Eagles, Chicago, and Foreigner are also in my collection. The eighties saw a decline in classic rock as many of the earlier bands broke up, but REO Speedwagon, Genesis, and U2 did some good work.

I recall, back in the day, we referred to much of this music as "progressive rock" as it became more sophisticated than early rock 'n roll by incorporating other genres like folk, country, jazz, blues (Hendrix did some great blues/rock), and romantic/classical era instrumentation and sounds, but now it's all Classic Rock and sounds as good today as it did 30 or 40 years ago.

On Tuesday I spent a couple of hours in the dentist's chair and the background music was from my junior high days - The Shirelles, Sam Cook, The Platters, Dion and the Belmonts... I was amazed that I remembered the artists and a lot of the lyrics. It actually sounded pretty good, so I may have another music project in the works, which will go chronologically behind my Glenn Miller collection.

Speaking of music legends and Corvettes; anybody know what Corvette Neil Young [at the time with The Buffalo Springfield] had rented/leased and was driving in September of 1966 when stopped by the police outside the Whisky-a-Gogo on Sunset Blvd. in Los Angeles, then taken into custody and beaten ?

Jimi was indeed a life long resident of Seattle. When he died he was buried in Renton WA just outside of Seattle. His father had a pretty impressive tomb built.

Great pics and info. Takes me back to alot of concerts, theirs, Herman's Hermits , Ike &Tina (I was on front row by stage and her sweat hit my mouth---), Beach Boys (my favorite), and I will never forget Kate Smith. I was fresh out of college and learning the Air Force ways when Janis and Jimi died. Way too soon.
