    1968 Seat Track Color

I did a search on the board. I am waiting on my judging manual - until then anybody have a suggestion for the color or aftermarket paint that will work on the seat tracks? My 68 was built in early October

    Thanks

    Ken,

The part of the track that the judges most often see (in the front) was gray phosphate. This can be approximated with paint, but it's not that hard to self-plate just the front portion that shows and get the 100% correct appearance.

    Here is an original (72):

      Hi Ken
As Patrick said the phosphate plating, (Parkerizing), is pretty easy to do at home.
If you're interested there have been some recent threads about the process, and where to obtain the supplies. You might want to do search for those threads (try parkerizing), or Google 'Palmetto Enterprises' which is one of the sources.
The process works well for your hood latch bases, both male and female, too.
      Regards,
      Alan

Thanks - I will give it a try. Anything is better than the gloss black paint that is on it and will be a great deal closer

Just an update - thanks for the response - I was not quite up to the parkerizing process yet - at the recommendation of a member I tried the eastwood phosphate paint. They turned out very nice. Now all that is left is drill out the rivets on the old support brackets, put the new ones in and bolt my seats down with the correct bolts. No more shiny black paint and chrome bolts.

          Thanks again for the input

Remember - the point loss for pain is the same, no matter what the color, if it is discovered.
