Have you guys heard of the tank sticker being placed in the dash area 70-72
behind the tach/speedo on the steering column ?? And what about the color on the back side
of the tank sticker is light purple correct ?

Yes they are found in the dash area, There were 5 copies i think of the tank sticker, the purple was like carbon paper.

Tom, You have a misleading signature line.

      It should be:

"You only live once. Drive a fast car."

I bought a very original '71 coupe (all POs within Denver metro) three weeks ago. I saw vestiges of what looks like glue on the right top side of the gas tank, but no sticker. Where else should I look? It's a very humble car (270hp, 4-speed, A/C, p/s, p/w) so I don't expect any surprises, but I'd sure love to have that piece of paper history. Any hints or suggestions?

I have found them between the tach and the speedo, and stuck into the frame near the rear. But it is unusual to find them in the other places.

Richard, I have the twin sister to your "71 and have been through it (very original) and did not have the one behind speedo. There have been reports of them found behind interior panels, behind seat backs, and tucked in the lower seat springs but as Wayne stated, this is RARE. Good luck and don't give up.

I pulled one out of a trailing arm on a 11,000 mile 74.

It was missing from my 1970, and I am the original owner. No joy behind the dash, under the seats or under the carpet -- although I did find some extra screws under the carpet -- those are not exactly what I was looking for. The tank sticker and NCRS delivery data is all that is missing from my 1970.

Terry: Just curious did you find/get the "Wholesale Invoice" on you nice LT1? None of business how you bought it (Cash;GMAC
or a bank) If so did you get the W/I from the dealer or GMAC/Bank or? I'm still looking for mine and I was to told
it was given to the first party that got the title or manufacture origin. FYI Larry

Based on what I have read, copies of the broadcast sheet has been found tucked in the wiring behind the speedo/tach; tucked in the wiring behind the center cluster, behind either kick panel, tucked in the springs under a seat, and under the carpet in the rear storage area.

GM's policy at the time was not to leave anything in the car which was not supposed to be there. None of the location above would have been visible to assembly line inspectors.

Tom Russo has a pic of a broadcast sheet folded and stuck in the bolts of the rear spring on a '78.

This is all very interesting, I had no idea the tank stickers could be so many different places. But did this also happen with '67s? I have never heard of any that were anyplace but glued to the top of the gas tank.

I have also heard of them being placed in between the coils of one of the front springs. Very rare and not typical, but a few cases did exist.

Well, everyone has had a found some different spots for tank stickers, I found one that was is the tucked into the strut rod bracket on a 79, in 2009 and was about 3/4 intack. and the tank also had its sticker on top and could veiw a piece sticking over the edge.

At the Charlotte National a few years back a BowTie ZR-1 had a shippers or transport copy in the Passengers map pocket. The owner was told to look there for some other paper work he was looking for and came out with that. Talk about luck.
