    96 LT4 Underhood Rub Material

In the 94-96 Guide on page 205 it says "All 1994, 1995 and 1996 LT1 and LT4 Corvettes have a black rectangular felt like material placed at the rear of the right underhood light to protect the fuel lines from rubbing on the underside of the hood."

Pic on the left accompanies this text. But as shown by the right pic my 1-owner 96 LT4 shows no evidence of ever having this material. Do other LT4 owners have this material? Thanks

I have a 30K mile 96 LT4 conv that does not have this pad nor does it display any evidence of ever having one ie: Discolored area/Glue remnants/or any visible application signs.

Our 3 owner '96 LT4 does not have this pad, or is there any evidence of it ever being there.

Gentlemen, attached is a photo of the underside of my original hood. This photo was taken of an August 1994, (1995-2nd day of production) LT1. Sadly, a deer visited me on my way to an NCRS Meet last Ocotober and the hood was damaged and the pad was destroyed. I am not at home and I am guessing it is the right side, but I could be wrong. Look at what side the wiring is on to determine, right or left.

          Hope this helps.

Thanks guys, this sure suggests to me that not all 94s-96s had this material. I'll pass it on to our Team Leader for his consideration.

It may have been something that was done on an "as-needed" basis as determined by line or inspection personnel.

The C4 restoration era is going to be fascinating and extremely challenging. As I've said before, there is so much parts content and complexity in these cars it's going to make C1, C2 and C3 restoration look like child's play.

Sounds reasonable Joe. I know mine didn't have it for whatever reason.

And I agree restoring a C4 will be very difficult. I'm gonna avoid this by not allowing mine to ever need a restoration.

Ding ding ding .... we may have a winner. In the 96 SM it instructs to put this material here for noise reduction. See pic. If this is the answer would this be considered normal dealer prep for judging?

My 95 Indy Pace car does not have one and there is no evidence it ever had one.

My original owner 1996 LT4 does not have it. Never has. Purchased in June 1996.

Re: 96 LT4 Underhood Rub Material

Since, I am the only one who reported this pad, I thought I would elabrate on my 1995 LT1.

It was manufactured on August 4, 1994 (second day of 1995 production) but did not ship to the dealer until September 1, 1994.

It then remained unsold at the dealership until January 2, 1996, yest 1996.

It was at the dealership for 16 months and we have determined that a little parts exchange took place during that time.

The original owner told me that he thought he was buying a leftover 1995 by taking delivery in 1996. He said that is what the salesman told him.

I have the original odometer statement showing 24 miles on January 2, 1996. Anything could have been added during its stay at the dealership as pointed out by previous posts. Stuff (ECM-HOOD PROP) taken off and UNDER HOOD PAD put on by the original dealer.

                          Just my 2 cents

I know it's an old post, but came across it and wanted to share. My 1995 (15,000) miles has it on the right side.
