    62-65 Corvette AFB Carburetor

Did the 1962 - 1965 Corvette AFB carburetor have a bronze filter at the inlet?

I know it's got the glass bowl one in the inlet line. But does it also have an additional bronze one where the line goes into the carburetor?

More common is a cup like brass filter screen in the chamber behind the hex fitting. I believe I have seen the bronze ones mentioned in ads, but I have never had one and really would not care to. The brass screens work fine as a back up to the filter, specially important with some later years that use the rubber fuel hose to the carb. After several "on and offs", small chunks of rubber can tear off from the hose interior (specially with today's gas). Being as the hose is downstream of the filter, the only thing to stop them is the filter screen in the carb. These pieces could easily hang up a needle/seat and lead to dangerous flooding - perhaps fire.I use a hose on my 63 L-76 in place of the stock chromed steel piece from the filter to the carb, as I have my carb jacked up with a phenolic spacer. I have had these small chunks appear in my filter screens bad enough to cause minor fuel starvation. One last thing, be careful of the gasket you use to seal the hex fitting to the carb. Older carbs were machined such that they could use a metal gasket there. The newer top plates will leak with this gasket. Stick with the red fiber type gaskets found in most kits, and it is best to use a new one each time you remove the fitting to change the filter screen.Stu Fox

Hope you can read my previous post. The new system runs all the paragraphs together when you try to edit it. Guess it's just a bug.
