I don't think anyone has the answer to that question. Second edition OM's are dated April 1967. One can only speculate that the actual change over was sometime in late March/April 1967 when the supply of first editions was exhausted.

So then a second edition would be correct for a May '67 assembly, right? I lost points because my manual was a 2nd edition for my J12 build.

If your 67 was built after (or even possibly slightly before) April 1967 then a second edition is the OM you need. If you lost points that was a judges error.
That is a case where the car owner needs to know his/her car and discuss that with the interior judges before you sign the judging sheets.

How much of a deduction? Any comments made on the judging sheet?

There was a 1 point deduction for "SR Manual". Not sure what the SR stands for, but the judge said it was a reproduction and then showed me the print in the cover that read "Second Edition." I know that I paid for (what I thought was) an original.

A second edition OM in 1967 is dated April 1967. The question is the deduct for a second edition (incorrect deduct) or a reproduction OM????? Or is a Helm, Inc. re-issue OM which appears original but has some deviations to the trained eye. There are lots of Helm re-issue OM's that are passed off as originals either knowingly or un-knowingly. The judges may have got it right.

SR = Service Replacement. Curious does it have a full Corvette news card or stub?

Many Helm re-issue manuals have full Corvette News cards. That is one of the problems with these re-issue manuals.

That is the most obvious deviation but there are others more subtile.

Both, but the inside photos are easier to detect. Once you compare an original to a re-issue side by side you will know quickly.

Original first edition owners manuals are difficult to find and they are expensive when you find them.

Thanks, Dave. I took a look and yes, easy to see. But I paid $7 for the repop. I see no evidence of the Corvette News stub in my original, first addition.
