1954 door latch

I need help to figure out how to keep the door latched. When the door is closed, the latch engages but it will open and is held by the safety catch. Where can I get information books or manual that will show or explain how to disassemble and re assemble the door latch?

try moving the catch slightly towards the door opening
the catch does come apart - there is only two parts - a spring and a white plastic slide.
