    '69 Belt Part Numbers - N40

This picture from the AIM describes the belt routing configuration for a 427 w/ N40 and no C60. However there is no corresponding diagram in the '69 AIM that lists the steering pump and alternator belt part numbers. The diagram on page J196, UPC 6, Sheet A4 indicates the water pump and A.I.R belts are part numbers 3941116 and 3881872 respectively but diagram does not indicate if this is only for a base engine or both base and 427. Niether the TIM&JG nor Rick Bizzoco's 1969 Stingray book provide this information either. Would someone care to correct/complete the following:

    A.I.R. Pump belt - 3881872
    Crank-to-Water Pump - 3941116
    Crank-to-Power Steering - ?
    Alternator - ?

I would also like to know the best currently available service replacements (from a judging point of view, i.e. max points) for these belts.

    Thanx,

    Crank-to-w/p-to-p/s pump= GM #3940992

    p/s pump-to-alternator= GM #3878243

The GM #3940992 is a 15/32" wide belt and 43-1/2" in length

The GM #3878243 is a 3/8" wide belt and 31-5/8" in length

The only primary source I know of for reproduction belts is Quanta Products. Of course, other suppliers like Dr. Rebuild, Corvette Central, and Paragon carry their belts. The GM #3941116 belt is a captured belt and the length is critical. The ONLY available belt of this length is the Quanta reproduction. You won't find it in any auto parts store.

      Thanx Joe,

Hopefully you can clear up this next mystery. When I use the Quanta site to find these belts, they list 3952336 as the correct crank-to-wp belt instead of 3941116 and 3946009 as the correct A.I.R. belt instead of 3881872. Can these differences be explained? Will either numbers work? Is it possible that the AIM listed numbers are for small block only?

I did not check before but having done so now, the GM #3941116 and 3881872 are small block belts. They are not correct for a big block. The 3952336 and 3946009 are the correct part numbers for a big block. The 3941116 small block captured belt and 3952336 big block captured belt are special length belts and can only be obtained as reproduction belts.
