    63 Seat track play

The seats on my 63 tend to have a small amount of play in the track. In essence, when you are seated in them, with the latches seated in one of the notches, you can rock them back and forth slightly. This makes a audible "click". They don't move much, but I'm not sure they're supposed to be like that.

I've taken them out and looked at the tracks, it would appear that the rocking is perhaps due to looseness in the rivet that holds the latch bell-crank to the frame. Is this something that a new rivet would fix, or is there another cause, or do I live with it?

    Thanks
    Mike

    Re: 63 Seat track play

There is certainly an issue with the 63 seat tracks, but I can't say I know exactly what it is. My driver side is specially acting in a manner you describe. Some 10 years ago it would not even lock in position, so I had a 2" x 4" block behind the seat. Then in 2010 I had Al Knoch recover my seats at the winter meet and they found the driver's side seat frame welds in one corner had broken loose. They Tig welded the frame and that seemed to help, but it still wanted to click back and forth some, so I put the block back there again just so the frame wouldn't move or twist enough to break it loose again. I hate having the block there, but it provides me some feeling of security so when I go for a quick clutch or stand on the brakes the seat will hold me in position. BTW, my passenger seat is fine because I rarely have a passenger.

Hi Stu, I don't think my frame welds are bad. I think the rivet is just too loose after almost 50 years. I have found that I can stop the movement by temporarily narrowing the slots that the two latches travel up and down in with tape, (you can see how wide the slots are in the pic below) so I may try to find way to do this permanently.

If anyone has a better idea, please chime in....
