I own several alum 2X4 653 intakes. A couple display a sleeve adapter 3/4 inch O.D. pipe thread , into the manifold with a 5/8 sqr hd pipe plug. Would one expect to see this config for a no heater car or would just a 3/4 pipe plug screwed into the manifold ( omitting the sleeve) be more appropriate?-Regards/Joel Miller 620

I can't document it anywhere, but I wouldn't expect to see an adapter sleeve to accept a smaller diameter plug; it's unlikely that Chevrolet would release two parts as standard equipment (sleeve and plug) when one (the larger plug) would do the job.- Top

Re: 57 270hp no heater plumbing question
My logic totally agrees with John's ------- removing this sleeve to install a 3/4 inch pipe plug is getting feisty. Have tigged the 5/8 plug into the sleeve so to have the 5/8 plug to get hold of to remove the entire thing but nothing is budging. Have heated both steel plugs welded together and hit manifold with liquid nitrogen while hot. No joy. Seems the sleeve must be about bonded with the manifolf. Guess next move will be to drill out the whole apparatus in small steps until thin enough to roll steel threads out of the alum manifold with a small pick.-----------Other ideas welcome--------Regards/Joel Miler----------The 3/4 OD to 5/8 ID iadapter sleeve is actuall there to accomodate a 5/8 threaded nipple for heater hose- Top
