Heater blower motor-where to send for repair?

I searched the archives, but did not come up with anything on this topic.

My heater blower motor has never worked on low speed. I have tested the voltage and the switch is working correctly. I even tested the blower motor in another car that i know 100 percent has good working components and the results were the same. I took the blower motor to my local AC Delco repair shop, but they looked at my like i was crazy for wanting it repaired. They said they could sell me a replacement, but that was all. I took it to another electrical repair shop, but they were not interested in repairing it either. I guess since the economy is sooo good currently that nobody needs work.
So, any suggestions on where to send the blower motor to for repair?

BETTER QUESTION: Can i buy a new 40.00 blower motor and simply remove its motor and install it in my cars original blower motor casing?

Chris, I would agree with the repair folks you spoke with, replace it. The cost of repair would probably exceed the cost of buying a good used original. There are plenty of them out there, eBay, etc. There were many available at the Florida Regional.

Also, depending on the internal failure, it may not be possible to fix it. I'm thinking of the bronze bearing that is pressed into the bottom that holds the armature shaft.

Chris, since the blower motor is working on other speeds, I would say the blower its self is fine, There is a resistor used to cut the voltage to the blower to change up the speeds, it sits on top of the inside heater box. i would be looking at that part and its connectors for good contact at that point.

I changed out the resistor with a new one that i have had sitting around from an older restoration, but it was not the problem. Voltage gets to the blower motor on all 3 speeds. I can get low to work if i turn the motor on high and then cut it back to low, but it just barely turns and smells like it is burning up. I installed it in my fathers corvette with the same result. I installed the one out of my fathers car in mine and it worked on all 3 speeds. It must be the motor, i have ruled out all other variables. If only it were something simple like a resistor. sigh....

Chris, The motor has bearing wear that is creating excess drag to the armature that it will not rotate at lower voltages. The current supplied on "high" appears to over come the "drag" in the bearings. My original 65 blower motor sits on the shelf for a similar reason, it screams, and growls when running. It will get some attention when I have nothing else to do.

Chris, sound like you have narrowed it to the blower motor. if its binding the bearings or bushings must be gone. the smell of something burning does not sound good, generally those electric motors are stamped together by a machine and finding someone to dissay. and get parts to repair would be hard to find, I would look for a used one.or a new one that will mount correctly from one of the venders such as L. I. Corvette.

I just hate to not use a dated component that came with my car, but i guess when it comes down to it, its just not worth it sometimes. Im not sure how many points the original dated blower motor is worth, but perhaps they are not worth too many???

On judging use CDCIF, the D is for date, thus 20 percent of the points on the part.
