    1966 interior mirror

    Need clarification,
Did ALL 1966 Corvettes come equiped with the day/night interior mirror?(since Z01 was not available)
    Thanks,
    Dominic.

    Dominic,

I'm not sure if any new 66 Corvettes were originally shipped with a day/night mirror. A day/night mirror was an available dealer installed option though.

      Re: 1966 interior mirror

I think this would make a great research subject, my 66's original dated mirror (11-DMI-5) is a non day/night. My car has an March 4th birthday, but in the assembly manual UPC 1 sheet E4 they do list 2 interior mirrors one part# 911353 mirror asm. two part#3886676 opt. I wonder if it was included with an another option like the V74? Maybe someday the answer will be found.

        Re: 1966 interior mirror

        Michael/Brian,
Thanks....this is definately interesting, since Noland Adams states ALL 1966 Corvettes came with a "day/night" mirror and the NCRS 1966 technical manual/judging guide states they came with either the standard mirror or the day/night mirror, but does not explain how you could get one and not the other via the factory.
This is where the "cloudiness" of this topic comes into play!
        Dominic.

Also besides the listed numbers in the AIM the original 66 sales brochure on page 14 they list available options : Inside prismatic-type day-night non-glare mirror. Like Michael said I don't know of an original equiped day-night mirror car, but then again I dont know that many cars, I would differ to Michael extensive knowledge and experience.

My March 14 66 has the day/night mirror matching the JG description.

                Jeff,
I have a 1966 ( also a Sept. 1965 Build ) and it does NOT have a day/night mirror and it is NOT dated....is yours dated?
                Thanks,
                Dominic.

                  Re: 1966 interior mirror

The fact that two part numbers are shown in the 66 AIM for the inside rear view mirror does not mean that the 2nd/optional number is actually an option that can be ordered by the dealer. It simply means that there were two part numbers/parts available on the assembly line for a standard mirror.

An example would be the "optional" numbers that is shown in the 66 AIM for an engine fan clutch. One from one manufacturer and the other from another.

If the mirror was actually a factory installed option, it would have an option number and be shown in the option section of the 66 AIM.

I have a 1966 GM "GM Custom Features and Accessories" folder for 1966 and the dealer installed accessory day/night inside mirror is shown, along with a portable spot light and locking gas cap, neither of which were available in production as an option.

A "New Car Order Sheet" for 1966 does not show a day/night mirror as an available factory installed option.

I think a lot of dealer accessory day/night mirrors were installed at time of sale/pre delivery.

This question has puzzled me since I've owned my 66...about 25 years now. At one time I was thinking maybe St. Louis was using the day/night inventory left over from 65 by putting them on cars that had highly optioned interiors. After looking at a handful of 66 original cars I have to say I could not find any relationship to anything. I do have a friend who has the dealer paperwork with his 66 and a day/night mirror is listed in a manner that makes it appear as a dealer option.

I have a 66 mirror from one of the few 1966 Corvettes that I have owned. It was a 1966 coupe I bought at Bloomington a few years ago. I will look at it and reply. I also wouldn't mind selling it.

Surely some one has the dealer order book. Wouldn't it have to be listed as a order-able option if it were in fact available from the factory?
