Gas tank anti speak pads on straps.

I'm replacing my gas tank with a new Quanta tank and straps and I need to know if anti-squeak pads go on the straps or not. The old one I took off has the pads on the straps but I have been told the pads only goes on the braces that support the tanks but the straps should not have pads. Please give me some advice.

I replaced my 70 tank a few months ago. Nothing on the straps. Anti-squeak pads were only on the under tank cross members.

Thanks Mike, mine is a 68 and looked like the correct straps and tank but the straps had pads. Both Quanta and Paragon told me no pads go on the straps.

Brandon, I replaced my tank about 18 months ago, and mine was the same as Mike's.

Thanks Kenneth, my car is a November 68 car. Maybe they quit putting them on the straps.

My '68 (November 67 build) did have pads on the straps when I changed out the gas tank a few years back.

Did you put the pads back on when you replaced the tank? Is your car a Big Block?

Like the others on this thread, they were completely deteriorated. I couldn't find anything I liked so I bought something from home depot about the same thinckness and used it, but it wasn't tar paper or anything. My car is not judged, so I put something in there that approximated the thickness and provided some cushion but wasn't too compressible. I used the yellow weatherstrip adhesive to glue it on. My car is a big block.

What does the Assembly Manual show in UPC 8?

It shows no anti-squeak pads on the straps and no indication of any revision removing said pads.

Looked at Dr.rebuild catalog and it shows pads for the staps. Item# 3002216 and has another number for the pads that goes on the cross braces that holds the tank up. I have decided to order them and put them on since my old straps had them.

                        Brandon -

Do whatever you like, but the car was built to the Engineering specs in the Assembly Manual, not to the Doc Rebuild catalog; 12 of the 13 major '67-'69 Camaro parts houses also sell insulator strips with their gas tank strap kits, and not one Camaro was ever built with them.
