Part # of GM grease used in distributor housing?

I thought I saw at one time, but can't seem to find an older thread on the type of GM grease used in the upper reservoir of the distributor to replace what most refer to as the "saw dust with 20W oil". Does anyone know off-hand the GM part number for the grease, and / or other substitutes for this application?

    Thanks again,

    Pat

Pat -- I don't know if this pic was from the earlier post you are thinking of, but the reddish stuff purports to be good for distributors; the tube is cam lube for points distribs. [Read last line of applications on the pot].

Out of curiosity, I opened up my NOS 1111263 distrib (no upper packing because of the ball bearing design) and the grease in the tach drive cavity was an orange, not red.

I think this is the stuff, as it heats up it weeps through the small hole allowing it to lubricate the distributor shaft. I see it does call out distributor shaft on that last line. I will wait and and see if others chime in but I belive this is what I need.

      Thanks Wayne.

These products are no longer available from GM and have not been in a long while.

My recommendation would be to use a synthetic chassis grease such as Valvoline Synpower #985 or Mobil 1 chassis grease. You could also use GM multi-purpose grease GM #12377985.

Thanks Joe, I already have the Mobil 1 chassis grease-this should get me to final assembly, test and installation.
