Wiper door

My wiper door has a few broke off bolts in it. Can I drill those out and put like a heli -coil in the door? Also I am thinking of changing out the rivets on the wiper door mechanism. When I go back with the rivets do it just use a air hammer and back up on them? Are can one just hammer them by hand? What would someone recommend to repaint all those components with? Would appreciate any tips from someone that has rebuilt the whole wiper door mechanism. Thanks

Hi Lyndon,
I can only help with the door mechanism finish.
I touched mine up with ol' Krylon #1613. The bushings and rivets were unpainted on my 71's mechanism.

I would have someone like CC repair the broken bolts in the door. They have a special jig---it's too easy to get them off just a hair and then the door binds and vacuum isn't adequate.

I have used heli-coil in my wiper doors of my 68 and 70. I was just careful and all is well in operations of the wiper doors. Can't remember how many I had to do, it was done over 22 years ago with no problems.
