'69 AIM confusion, Core support mystery bracket

    UPC L36 sheet B4.

There is a triangular shaped bracket (marked with a 1) and attached to the core support with 2 bolts underneath the upper fan shroud support (also marked 1). My copy does not have the part number or description at the top of the page for either, although I understand the upper fan shroud support.

My question: Is this triangular bracket present on a 427/L71? If so, what does it do??

You will find the part numbers, etc. on sheet UPC 11-13, B4. (radiator and grill). According to the sheet the upper bracket attaches the shroud to the support and the lower holds the radiator. All engines used the same brackets. I will try to get a picture of mine for you later today.

Sorry, I misread your post! The lower bracket is not on my '69. The bracket is called out on the page I listed (part number 3966657) and is shown on the following page connected to the top of the radiator but not on my car. The accompanying bracket and cushion is also not there and never was.

Most of the time the 69 AIM uses a generic picture to show the core support. It's not really 100% correct for any configuration. The triangular brace you see is used to hold the radiator in place on cars that used an aluminum radiator. No L71's used an aluminum radiator so it is not needed or used on your car.

          OK! Thanks John and Jeffery!!
I suspected that it did not belong but I have very little contact with these cars outside of my own and sometimes I miss things.
