My air cleaner base need restoring. What would be the best paint to restore that high gloss back with? Would something out of a rattle can give good results if it was high heat? Pros and cons of powder coating parts? I know powder coating will not pass judging, but I would like that part to last more than I am worried about losing points. Has anyone restored one with the powder coating process? If so were you pleased with the results. I think I can have it blasted and powder coating for like 85 dollars.

Re: Restoring a duel snorkel air cleaner
When I cleaned up my air cleaner I stripped it with paint stripper, seems it's plated. Wouldn't have found that out if I beaded it. Sprayed it with a rattle can, looks good. I've driven the car a few thousand miles since, the only thing that showed signs of wear is the white GM sticker on the drivers side. It wrinkled a bit. Don't know if that's a result of something I did, quality of the sticker itself or just normal. Good luck!!- Top

Re: Restoring a duel snorkel air cleaner
Can't speak for Mr. Sharpton but the previous owners of my car didn't have the words, "correct" or "neat" in their vocabulary. There must have been a case or two of black rattle cans arond. I think they used them to "restore" anything that looked remotely close to black or had any black on it. In the coming weeks I'll be working on removing the black paint from the vacuum lines, wires, etc... can't wait!! It's not easy being the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th owner of these cars.- Top

Re: Restoring a duel snorkel air cleaner
I don't think the air cleaner base or cover had true 'high gloss' paint to start with, semi-gloss would be closer.- Top
