Ethanol starts going back in around 4 months. After that it goes down hill, separates and causes all kind of havoc. And it's only going to get worse you know.

Story: I had a 5 gallon container of ethanol sitting outside my garage door. It was approx two years old and absolutely reeked. The neat thing is someone stole this can of rot gut and dumped it in their car. Can't tell you who took it but a friend told me that this person had to have his/her car towed to the dealers as it ran like crap. Tru story. You can't buy that kind of happiness gang.
Tom, I don't know who is rebuilding pumps that are crimped together. But say you or someone here has a fuel pump that screws together.
Kits are available for alcohol/ethanol Pumps. The colors and types of gasket are not something judges would like to see.

Can the sealed fuel pumps be restored?

Yes......but only a few people can/will do this work. And I think that the jury is still out (at least in my mind) regarding how well these rebuilds perform compared to a new non-OEM replacement fuel pump like Airtex.

Tom with the fuel pump experience I have had on my 68 and 70 I would not do the "preventive maintenance" on your fuel pump in having it rebuilt. If it was working when you drained the tank I would just put gas in the tank when you are ready to drive it again and see how it works, could last a long time. Since the 69 pump is a sealed unit I would feel safer going down the highway with a new sealed AIRTEX pump instead of a rebuilt resealed old pump. I would of put the pump I installed on my first failure of my 68 in 75 to see if it really was bad when I changed it but I did not know about my fuel pressure regulator problem until after two subsequent fuel pump installations. There was no external leakage of fuel when I removed it. The original fuel pump that came on the 68 was leaking fuel out of the pump in 75 when I replaced it. The 70's original fuel pump also had visible leakage when I changed it about 25 years ago.
