'69 Engine prep for paint, were spark plugs installed?

Since I can't find the plugs in the AIM, I am to understand that the engine left Tonawanda with the plugs in. Was the engine painted with the plugs installed? If so were they masked?

In the 1968-1972 era spark plugs were installed at the engine plant for both large & small motors -- both were hot fired at the engien assembly plant and that required spark plug install. Unlike the engine oil the spark plugs were left int he engine.

Spark plugs were installed AFTER engine paint. The empty spark plug holes were masked during engine paint.
