Re: Nordkapphallen Norway
Jack, enjoy your adventures. Not everybody has a chance to do what you are doing. If you have a chance while in Finland, try to get in touch with the owner of the white 62 that was exported to Finland. It is car #00015. Since mine is #00029 I would like to get in touch with the owner of #15 to compare notes. Thanks in advance.

Re: A Yank in King Arthurs's Court
When we did the UK-LeMans trip in 2006, it was MUCH less expensive to ferry the car from Dover than it was to run the 'Chunnel'. And, even that alternative wasn't 'cheap'. If memory serves the RT ferry ride was around $500 US...
Next, I'd start checking out the validity of your car insurance. Insurance is issued by those licensed to offer a policy where the car is REGISTERED. So, ask your current insurance carrier if they will honor their policy in Europe...
All of Europe has a reciprocating agreement with the US allowing for temporary vehicle import/use. So, running the car on the roadways isn't an issue. But, insurance can be!
When Tom Falconer brought his C4 from England for the NCRS National Road Tour and a a run at the American Heritage Award, he found he had to REALLY shop around for an insurace company who'd issue a policy in the UK AND cover him in the US. Turned out there WERE insurers out there and more than one of them specialized in offering insurance to GI's. Bottom line, you may have to switch insurance carriers for this trip. But, start now shopping your alternatives rather than waiting until the last minute...- Top

Re: A Yank in King Arthurs's Court
I used to go back and forth with Eurotunnel quite frequently, wasn't that expensive if booked in advance. Just for budgeting, return passage on the ferry is presently around 75 pounds sterling ($120USD) booked in advance and the tunnel is 135 ($200). Last minute booking can be very costly.- Top

Re: A Yank in King Arthurs's Court
It looks like you are traveling through Stavanger. I lived there 5 years and have tons of friends there, but most are Mustang collectors. Let me know what day you will be through and I will make sure they welcome you properly with a true Norwegian hello, aquavit and all.Big Tanks In the High Mountains of New Mexico- Top

Re: A Yank in King Arthurs's Court
Hi Michael and the rest of you,
Thanks for the info. I will keep all informed of my dates and travel. Thanks also for the tips on ferries and tunnel transport. I will have certain check points that I will be at on specific dates. The ferry seems like much more fun......at least I will have a target date to be at the dock to get to UK. I have found a Dutch insurance agency that can get me the insurance I need for all the countries that I will travel . The green card insurance will cost about $450 E's for 2 months. I don't know what my insurance will be yet for theft and collision. Good hint about taking off my plates in transit and putting them on when I get the car on the dock.
If the boat still stops in Portland for containers as it does now.....it will make the shipping very easy. I talked with the dock worker who will put the car in the container for me. The car will go from Portland ME to Nova Scotia . From there it will be put on a bigger boat to Oslo.
We shall see........

Hello to All,
Most of you have been following my adventures for more than two years.
Without your help and encouragement, my trips would not have been possible.

Thanks , Paul Harrington, NCRS and New England Corvette Club members
I would like to thank Paul Harrington and the many corvette friends and members of the New England Corvette Club for send off party for the European trip.
Paul had set up a little party on the first day of my 48 state trip....to my surprise , more than 20 corvettes and their owners greeted my at Paul's home on Cape Cod....
This year Paul invited me down to do a pre trip tune up and inspections of my car before taking it to Europe.....I got there on Friday and we changed the plugs, oil, filter and check all fluids....Paul has a great garage and a few very nice cars.....and a lift...
Unfortunately.....as I got off the highway and slowed down a bit...I began to hear a bad sound from the rear and drive train....
We spent the day trying to track it down....we did find that my trailing arm shims had popped out on my right side.....we found some extras and replaced the missing ones....but the clanking and clinking continued...
I drove the car home and had no problem at high speeds, no noise or clanking....but at low speeds clinking came back....I will try to get the car to my mechanic to find the problem......hate to have a wheel fall off or some other drive train part break on the road
We did a mock judging of my car NCRS style....no I am not going to tell you how many points I had deducted.....But my engine now has decals.....I remember the original ones from 42 years ago......long gone, but now......just like new.......it says my engine has 350 HP...so it must be true..
Here are a few pictures and and link to all of them on Photobucket....about 15 to 20 members showed up with some very fast late models....

Re: Thanks , Paul Harrington, NCRS and New England Corvette Club members
Jack, we really enjoyed having you down the Cape. Great turnout to kick off your European journey. Maybe a fluid dump and change of the rear end with some GM posi lube will quiet down that noise. Could be the parking brake. Your engine compartment looks great with those 350 horse valve cover decals. Must be much faster now!!!- Top
