    63 Side Emblem Nuts

The pic attached here shows two different thread-cutting nuts. One on the left is a repro, supplied by several vendors for attaching the side emblems on 63's. The other is a older nut that I believe may be correct for this application.

Does anyone have an opinion on these?DSC00817.jpg

    Thanks,
    Mike

I vote for the one on the right with some dum dum inside
    to keep water out.
    It's a good life!

Michael, Actually the repro is the closest to being an original. The one of the right is generic. The original had those cut outs in them. (like the repro)
You haven't lived until you try and change the passenger side flag with (nice NOS 158 flag) the heater motor in the way. I would like to have the original emblem nuts that fell down forever lost.

        Michael,

I just looked at an old original set of FI emblems from a 63 or 64 that I have in the garage. One emblem still has two nuts on it. One nut has the three notches and the other does not. ??
I've seen gold colored plating and also black plated nuts.

GM used these nuts by the gazillions on all models so I'm thinking there was more than one supplier to GM.

          Thanks guys.

John, I replaced that nut behind the blower once......my back still hurts

My cars have both those styles, plus one with the larger diameter and no notches. I didn't think you could get the notched ones back then, so I assumed those old ones on my cars were replaced during some previous paint job.

Should these nuts have residual "black-out" on them?

            Michael,

The emblems that I have came from a 64 so there may have been some differences in the nuts for 63. These are black plated. I vaguely remember that most for 63 were zincad or gold??

I don't remember these having the "dum dum" in the nut that Paul mentioned. I do remember that on some later models though.

The emblems were installed AFTER engine compartment blackout so there should be no black paint on the emblem studs/nuts.

              Mike,

Side emblem pal nuts in UPC 11-13 sheet 1 are part number 274754. This part also shows up in UPC 1 sheet B9 for attaching speaker grill to dash. My grill was never out of car and attached pic shows original. Three notches, .625 od with some type of gold plating. One or two of these were on side emblems but since car was painted a number of times I couldn't verify correctness. Apparently there are two versions of pal nut .625 od and .5 od flange, probably similar to USS/SAE washer options. Mr Gs Fasteners sells them under part FA1859A. I sent some out for yellow zinc not sure it will match original gold color though.
              Thanks

              Jeff
