    re Radio light ?

I had my Am FM radio repaired and bought a new speaker. Installed and sounds great. My question is their a light bulb inside the readio ?
Doesn't seem to light up the main face. the bulb does for work on the outside for the gauges. thanks for any info. 1964

    Re: re Radio light ?

There is a light in the radio for the face. It is controlled by the off/on switch of the radio AND the dash lights. If the radio is off the light will be off even tho the dash lights are on. If it doesn't work this way, the light-switch portion of the radio off/on switch in the radio is possibly bad or the bulb has failed.

      Wayne -

The radio dial light only works if the dash lights are on (headlight switch knob pulled out to parking or headlghts position) and the radio is turned on. Radio on & dash lights off = no light. Radio off & dash lights on = no light.

Wayne, if you remove the left (drivers) side panel, you will be able to access the radio bulb to check/replace it. No need to remove the radio. Dan

Here is a photo showing the light mounted correctly on the left side of the radio cover.

And that's part of the problem with 1964 radios. The white wire shown in Stephen's pic is the routing for the '65-7 radios. the '64 has the wire routed inside the metal side panel, exiting only where the clip on the side is located. This makes it difficult to slide the clip/lamp assembly off the tab on the side cover.
