    C2 Fuel Pump Date Cast?

While going over my leaking fuel pump (#40366), I have found a cast number within the throat of this pump. I have explored many past posts and I am not able to find any mention of this. I have posted a picture (hopefully) of this and would like to ask if any of you have encountered this.

I ask this in order to find out if this is possibly my original pump. My car is a 66, 427, built Nov. 65. The number found in throat of pump is 65, is this a cast date?
    Thanks for any response. PL

The "65" is for the year 1965. Is there some hash marks (from 1 to 12) around the number "65" forming a circle (or more likely a partial circle) like a clock? If so the number of hash marks represents the month. Are there 2 letters stamped next to the "40366" on the flange?

David, There are eight raised bumps around the "65". The flange only has the stamped number 40366. One other number found is a small raised "8" inside the throat at the 9 oclock position.

The 8 "bumps" (or "hash marks") represent the month of August so the main part of the pump was cast in August 1965. I would say that this is the original pump for your 1966 Corvette 427 made in November 1965.

The very first non-rebuildable type AC fuel pumps pumps made by AC only had the 5-digit stamped part number but non-rebuildable AC fuel pumps made in later years had 2 letters added to the 5-digit part number which indicated the month and year that the pump was assembled.

Actual examples of non-rebuildable type AC fuel pumps:
        "HF40482" (November 1966)
        "FF40433" (June 1966)
        "AG40433" (Jan. 1967)

        The AC 40366 fuel pump = GM # 6416245 in Gr. 3.900

The earliest AC fuel pump with the 2-letter stamped date code that I have ever seen is a "4657 LD" AC rebuildable type pump (LD = Dec. 1964) with a "64" casting year with 10 "hash marks" (Oct. 1964). The 1963 and 1964 Corvette 4657 fuel pumps are just stamped "4657".

I stated a thread about AC fuel pump date codes in the link below.

          Wow!
Thanks for the info Dave. A couple of us were looking at this pump trying to determine its originality. Now we know!

            Glenn,

I would say your "BF40366" pump was assembled in February 1966. Is it the original pump from for car? If so, what is the body build date?
